Harnessing Fortitude of the Turtle on Turtle Island
We are currently experiencing a significant period of transformation and change in our world. To navigate, we must tap into the deeper anchor within ourselves and with the earth, grounding ourselves in what is essential and discovering our purpose as we move forward.
During the holidays, I spent some meaningful and powerful time in Hawaii, often referred to as ancient Mu (Lumeria). I connected with friends and embraced the beauty and power of the earth, it’s clear waters, and the grandmother turtles. While walking along the beach with a friend, we encountered many turtles who, with great fortitude, were making their way from the shore, belly to belly with the Mother Earth. This exemplifies true grounding and perseverance! Swimming alongside the turtles, I watched as they moved gracefully through the water, flowing innocently with the waves. Their movements inspired me to reflect on our own nature; we are predominantly water and can learn from the turtles in navigating the challenges in our lives and our times.
The turtle holds great importance among Native American tribes, symbolizing healing, wisdom, spirituality, health, safety, longevity, protection, and fertility. Myths often depict turtles diving into ancient waters to gather mud, contributing to the formation of Mother Earth. Furthermore, the turtle's shell signifies both protection and perseverance, leading Native Americans to refer to this land as Turtle Island in honor of its role in creation stories.
These remarkable creatures showcase resilience, adaptability and a profound connection to both land and water. As strong swimmers, they skillfully move between ocean and shore, with their shells offering essential protection. Additionally, turtles embark on long journeys slowly from the sea to land to lay their eggs, embodying determination and purpose.
We all have a connection to something greater and must recognize that we are all interwoven into the web of life. Turtles symbolize our existence on Turtle Island, urging us to reconnect with the essence of Mother Earth.
