Metamorphosis & The Power of Transitions

As the light slowly begins to shift, a warm golden hue of Autumn graces us in North America. Fall is a magical time when nature takes the lead and demonstrates the art of transition. This is a good time to reflect: What is transitioning in your life?

For myself, this summer has been a season of connection with nature and replenishment. The July’s women’s retreat in Mt. Shasta was especially invigorating, filled with the magic of mountains, healing waters, abundant time outdoors and a wonderful community. In August, I embraced a little slower pace, enjoying more moments immersed in nature and much inner transformation.

As we stand on the cusp of a seasonal change with the Equinox coming up, nature prompts us to take inventory of our lives. What parts of your life are ready to be pruned away? What is ripe for harvest? What is the quiet voice in your heart calling you to create?

The energetic themes for September that are coming forward are Metamorphosis, The Power of Dreaming, & Imagination.

Metamorphosis not only signifies the shift into autumn but also reflects the immense changes happening on Earth. This time calls us to shed old versions of ourselves and forge new pathways forward, both for ourselves and future generations.

Just as nature undergoes transformations, we too experience metamorphosis throughout different phases of life—during puberty, marriage, childbearing, menopause, elderhood, or when ending or beginning a relationship, facing a death or birth in the family, and other life transitions. Change often signals that parts of our identity or how we relate to the world are no longer relevant.

We don’t always consciously create the time and space to release the old. Like a caterpillar entering the chrysalis, we can embark on a conscious rite of passage, letting go of our old selves and making room for a process and listen as we evolve. Many indigenous cultures honor this process through rites of passage—creating a liminal space to step out of the ordinary and undergo huge metamorphosis.

The power of Imagination and Dreaming is essential during times of change. Everything, inside and out, is created through the currents of imagination and dreaming. This creative power has often been hidden from us, yet it is inherent in all of us. Humans are dreamers, and we are always dreaming. I’m not only referring to the dreams we experience while sleeping, but also to the dreaming power we possess that creates everything around us. Creativity is the most powerful superpower we humans have—it’s what gives rise to masterpieces in art and music, what brings forth voices, and what grows incredible lives.

Do you feel disconnected from your creative birthright?
When was the last time you felt truly alive, from within?

We often face challenges that “seem” to take away our inner power. Set some time aside and let yourself dream. Enter the chrysalis and open your imagination. Step out of the ordinary. Be willing to release old ways of orienting to life and listen to your deepest heart that is always guiding you forward.
